Swedish American Hall

The Swedish American Hall is one of San Francisco’s oldest and most esteemed event venues. A registered historic landmark, the building was built in 1907 by architect August Nordin for the Swedish Society of San Francisco. Our space boasts three individual halls of beautiful Arts+Crafts style architecture and is home to Cafe du Nord, our speakeasy bar on the basement level. We are proud to operate as the premier event venue in the Castro/Upper Market neighborhood serving as the meeting place for hundreds of SF residents and visitors each year.

In addition to our private event bookings, we are proud to partner with Noise Pop to bring a curated calendar of live performances to our spaces throughout the year.

Freja Hall

Located on the 2nd Floor of the Swedish American Hall, Freja Hall is the largest room in the building and the architectural highlight of the space.

Featuring nearly 2,000 sq ft of event space, a built in platform stage, and a mezzanine level with ornate woodwork detailing, the hall functions perfectly as the backdrop for a wide array of events ranging from cultural celebrations to weddings, nonprofit fundraisers to corporate conferences, and everything in between.

Cafe du Nord

Located in the basement level of the Swedish American Hall, Cafe du Nord has a storied history of live music and great cocktails - and has been serving San Francisco patrons continuously for over 110 years.

Thoughtfully renovated in 2016, Cafe Du Nord features built in seating, a beautifully detailed hardwood bar, and a platform stage fully equipped with high quality sound and video technology. This speakeasy style venue offers an intimate atmosphere to gather for corporate happy hours, birthday parties, receptions, and celebrations of all kinds.
